When Green Energy Threatens What it is Meant to Save

The proposed Kentbruck Windfarm in south-west Victoria, threatens, the critically endangered Southern bent-wing Bat, the Australian Bittern and Brolgas. It would be situated on the karst area of the Glenelg River, near a Ramsar wetland and national parks. It is currently being assessed by the Victorian Government, which has held six weeks of public hearings over the course of 2025. The proposal faces strong environmental opposition.

Caves provide homes for many species of fauna, and cave crickets are one them. Recent work by Adelaide University entomologists have discovered three new species of these delicate creatures.

Cave crickets are often thought of as indicator species as their presence of lack of can indicate a major habitat change. This is why this research matters.

After two years of managing feral horse numbers in the Kosciuszko National Park, numbers have increased due to breeding and a dry summer. More work needs to be done to protect our valuable alpine region with its critically endangered plants and animals.

The Beetaloo Basin includes the karst areas of Mataranka Springs, Daly Rivers and the Roper River in the Northern Territory. Tamboran Resources has received permission to drill 15 pilot gas wells in the Shenandoah South fracking pilot area after the Federal Court rejected the argument put by the Lock the Gate Alliance that the project should be subject to the Federal environmental assessment under its water trigger provisions.
